Don’t be fooled. While Hance Rapids looks unimpressive from this vantage point on the South Rim, it is one of the Colorado River’s most treacherous rapids. It is a mile long and has a 30 foot drop in the space of a half mile.
On our way from Bryce to Page, Arizona, we made a brief detour to drive through Zion (from the East entrance to the visitor center and back). While we were at the visitor center, it began to rain. It was raining on me as we stopped, so I could photograph the valley before we drove back through the tunnel. The scenery at Zion was still spectacular despite the rain.
